Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 4, 2026
In short: LampWay has no sign-up, no ads, no cookies and no third-party trackers. We do not know who you are, we do not store IP addresses or the text of questions, and we do not sell or share data for advertising. Below is a detailed description of what data is processed and why.
1. What is stored only on your device
Your browser's storage (localStorage) keeps: your reading history, reading plan progress, chosen translations and settings, a note that you have seen the principles window, and a random device identifier (not linked to your name, phone or any account). This data is not sent to the server, except the device identifier (see section 3).
Delivery settings (times and channel) are currently also stored only on your device. If message delivery is launched, we will update this policy in advance.
You can delete this data at any time by clearing the site's data in your browser settings.
2. Questions
When you ask a question, its text (and up to four earlier questions from the same conversation, kept only in the memory of the open page) is sent to our server and to the Google Gemini API to select verse references. Google processes this data under its own terms.
We do not store the text of questions. To avoid processing identical questions again, the cache keeps, for up to 30 days, a hash (an irreversible fingerprint) of the normalized question and the list of selected references.
Please do not include names, addresses, phone numbers, health information or other personal data in your questions.
3. Abuse protection
To limit the number of questions per day, the server counts requests by a hash of the IP address and device identifier with a salt that changes every day and is never stored. The IP address cannot be recovered from this hash. Counters are deleted after one day. Reading of licensed translations is limited the same way.
4. Anonymous statistics
To understand which sections are used, we count per day: page views, site section and language, country (determined by the host from the request; the IP address itself is not stored), the domain of the site you came from, and the number of questions. The number of unique visitors is estimated from a hash of the IP address and browser with a daily salt; it cannot be used to recover an IP address or identify a person. Only aggregate counters are kept, for up to 400 days.
5. Feedback
If you send feedback, we store what you wrote yourself: the feedback type, your comment, and, for feedback about an answer, the question and verse references. We also store the language, page address, country and time. The IP address and device identifier are not stored. Up to the 5,000 most recent messages are kept; only the site team sees them.
To delete your feedback, write to info@lampway.org and quote its text: we do not know who sent it and can find it only by its content.
6. Service providers
Vercel hosts the site. Like any host, it receives technical request data (including the IP address) and may keep technical logs under its own policies.
Upstash stores the cache, counters, statistics and feedback described above.
Google provides the Gemini API (verse selection, see section 2) and Google Fonts (fonts are loaded from Google servers, which receive your IP address and browser information).
YouVersion Platform provides licensed translation texts. Requests are sent by our server; your IP address is not passed to YouVersion.
These providers may process data in other countries, including the United States, under their own privacy policies.
7. Cookies and advertising
The site does not use cookies, advertising, advertising identifiers or third-party analytics. We do not sell data or share it for advertising.
8. Children
The site does not require personal data and does not knowingly collect it, including from children.
9. Your rights
We keep only anonymous data and usually cannot link it to a specific person. Send questions about data and deletion requests to info@lampway.org. We will reply within a reasonable time and do what is technically possible.
10. Security
Service access keys are kept only on the server, connections are protected by HTTPS, and third-party scripts are blocked on the site's pages. However, no method of transmitting or storing data over the internet is completely secure.
11. Changes
We may update this policy. A new version takes effect when it is published on this page; the date is shown at the top.
